Pending approval by the Shoreview city council and the Ramsey county board, construction could begin in late summer, with possible completion by early summer 2005. The Guidant Foundation, the non-profit organization funded by the Indianapolis-based medical device firm, is working with the city and Ramsey County to develop designs for the band shell.

Guidant has about 3,000 employees at its cardiac rhythm management division headquarters in nearby Arden Hills, MN. The Guidant Foundation is dedicated to advocacy and education for patients who are at risk or suffer from cardiovascular disease. Support is also focused in the communities where a majority of Guidant's employees live and work. The foundation is an independent non-profit organization funded by gifts from Guidant Corp.

Construction could begin in late summer near the popular Shoreview Community Center. The new structure would be a centerpiece of the Shoreview Commons, which also includes the popular Shoreview Community Center and Ramsey County Library, and is another step in a long-range development plan for the area, according to city officials.

An informational meeting about the new band shell is scheduled for Thursday.
