Foundation Funds $1M Band Shell at Community Center

SHOREVIEW, MN-A The state-of-the-art band shell would be a centerpiece of the Shoreview Commons, city officials say. After design work is completed, construction could begin in late summer, with possible completion by early summer 2005.

SHOREVIEW, MN-The Guidant Foundation has agreed to pay up to $1 million for the construction of a new community band shell. The band shell, which would be across Minnesota 96 from the community center, would have about a 2,000-sf stage and seat about 1,000 on a graded area with Snail Lake serving as a scenic backdrop.

Pending approval by the Shoreview city council and the Ramsey county board, construction could begin in late summer, with possible completion by early summer 2005. The Guidant Foundation, the non-profit organization funded by the Indianapolis-based medical device firm, is working with the city and Ramsey County to develop designs for the band shell.

Guidant has about 3,000 employees at its cardiac rhythm management division headquarters in nearby Arden Hills, MN. The Guidant Foundation is dedicated to advocacy and education for patients who are at risk or suffer from cardiovascular disease. Support is also focused in the communities where a majority of Guidant’s employees live and work. The foundation is an independent non-profit organization funded by gifts from Guidant Corp.
