Beaumont has owned the property on the northwest corner of Kennedy Circle and Common Road in Warren for several years, and now says it will begin construction by this fall. Southfield-based American Construction is the general contractor for the project.

The Warren city council voted 8-1 this week to approve the site plan for the 40,000-sf building. Council President James Fouts cast the dissenting vote because he thought the project should be located on the city's south end.

"If you drive around our city, you see that we have too many medical buildings right now that are vacant. This is one of our last major prime sites in the Civic Center area, I'm not sure we have to rush it," Fouts says.

Warren has announced plans to construct a $75-million Downtown area along the Van Dyke strip that will include a new city hall and main library, a multi-level municipal parking structure, a city park and new streets. Construction on the parking structure is expected to begin next week.
