String Company Building May Be Landmarked

CHICAGO-The Chicago Printed String Co. building, a light industrial building at Logan Boulevard and Elston Avenue, is being slated for landmark status by the Chicago Commission on Landmarks. Built between 1928 and 1941, the two-story “modernistic” building is in a Logan Square community that continues to see multifamily and retail redevelopment.

Home Depot and Target Corp. already have staked out locations to the south of the 19,000-sf Chicago Printed String Co. building. The company used the building to make string imprinted with its customers’ names used to tie bakery and candy boxes.
