ANKA LLC Secures DRA for Aria Project

SAN DIEGO-The Centre City Development Corp.'s board of directors grants design review approval for the Aria project, which ANKA LLC has proposed for the Cortez Hill neighborhood of Downtown San Diego. ANKA may break ground on the development as early as April 2004.

SAN DIEGO-The Aria multifamily complex that developer ANKA LLC has proposed for the Cortez Hill neighborhood of Downtown San Diego is moving forward, as the Centre City Development Corp.’s board of directors has authorized design review approval for the project. The CCDC board has granted the approval in a vote of 4-0, with board members Harold Johnson, Victor Vilaplana and Robert A. McNeely absent.According to CCDC principal planner Brad Richter, ANKA LLC has now received all of its discretionary approvals for the project. The developer “just needs to go through plan check” before construction of Aria can begin, he tells GlobeSt.com. “ANKA will probably aim at breaking ground in about nine months,” Richter adds. Designed by architectural firm Perkins & Co., Aria will consist of 137 condominium units that will be comprised of one-, two-, and three-bedroom designs. The market-rate facility will also feature 270 parking spaces, a pool and recreation facilities. Slated to rise on the northeast corner of Ninth Avenue and Ash Street, it will feature good views of Balboa Park and the rest of Downtown, according to Richter. “Aria will be one of the last projects to be developed on Cortez Hill, completing the urban renewal of that neighborhood over the past five years,” Richter says.
