The local chapter of BOMA won in three TOBY categories. This is the first time since the year 2000 that BOMA Houston brought home more than one award and first in its history to tuck away three awards. TOBY winners are recognized for excellence in office building management in specific categories of building size or type.

The 570,444-sf Esperson Buildings in Houston's CBD won the historical building category. Donald H. Fischer of Transwestern Commercial Services nominated the "His and Her" towers at 808 Travis and 808 Walker streets. The 32-story Niels Esperson building rose in 1927 and the 19-story Mellie Esperson Building went up in 1941 as an annex. The office complex is owned by a partnership of the Swit Co. of San Francisco and DRA Advisors LLC of New York City.

The winner of the medical office building category was the 2450 Holcombe Building, Houston. Keith Weaver with Texas Medical Center, the property's owner, is the property manager for the 638,000-sf building, a one-time Nabisco cookie factory.

The winner of the 100,000-sf to 249,999-sf category was Granite Towers at Sugar Creek, a 204,000-sf, class A building at 13135 Dairy Ashford on the west side of town. GPI Development Inc., an affiliate of Dallas-based Granite Properties Inc., is the owner. Granite's in-house building manager is Gary Baker.
