DETROIT-Plans to reopen the storied, but now closed, Rhinoceros Club, in Detroit’s Harmonie Park business district are charging ahead. The restaurant had been a fixture in Detroit’s east riverfront district for nearly a quarter of a century, but closed in 1998, after speculation of incoming casinos drove many businesses out.
Will Hurt, managing partner of Randolph Centre Street LLC, says Randolph will operate The Rhino at Harmonie Park, a 126-seat restaurant that is expected to feature live music six days a week, including outdoor concerts on Wednesday evenings. City officials believe the Rhino’s arrival will help revitalize recent closures in Harmonie Park, including Intermezzo, an upscale Italian restaurant, and Harmonie Pointe Grille, as well as the nightspot, Cayenne & Chocolate Bar.
“We’ve seen growth in the downtown sports and entertainment district, and people are patronizing new and established restaurants,” Hurt says. The Rhino will feature entrees priced from $8-$20, including crab cakes, steak, seafood and desserts. A wine and cigar bar will be located in a lower level.
