BEVERLY, MA-The city council approved a zoning change that will allow a six-story hotel to be built on the Cummings Center property. The two-million-sf Cummings Center sits on 80 acres and the hotel would be built within walking distance of the building.

The property was acquired by Cummings Properties in the late 1990s. The company redeveloped the old United Shoe Machinery Co. headquarters into the office complex, which now houses over 400 businesses and three colleges. The center is located near Route 128 off Route 1A and Route 62.
