During this session, panelists will highlight new retail development in specific Michigan market areas, as well as the redevelopment of existing centers and big box conversions. Featured areas include Southfield, Grand Rapids and East Lansing.
A series of "Roundtable Discussions" will then take center stage. These small, interactive group sessions will give attendees an opportunity to participate in informal, yet in-depth discussions on important issues pertaining to the shopping center industry. Some topics include: "Marketing Today's Open-Air Centers," "Supermarkets in the 21st Century – Drive Thrus, Service Stations and Other Add-ons," "Fast Casual Restaurants – The New Explosion," "Detroit Development Update – From Downtown to Midtown," "Effects of Big Box Retailing – How Will Traditional Retail Adjust/Survive?"
"Michigan Retailers – Past/Present/Future" immediately follows and will feature three well-known industry veterans who will share their ideas and experiences on a variety of important retail topics. The three industry professionals include David Baratta, vice president, real estate, La-Z-Boy, Inc., Monroe; Steven Laffey, senior vice president, real estate, DOC Optics Corp., Southfield; and Cliff Sasfy, vice president, real estate, Spartan Stores, Inc., Grand Rapids.
The Michigan Idea Exchange concludes with a Deal Making session until 4 p.m. During the Deal Making session, Michigan shopping center owners, developers and managers will meet with retailers to discuss leasing space in new or existing shopping centers. Some participants include: Ad Vice Signs, Inc., Big Lots, Inc., Bob Evans Farms, Inc., Dollar Tree Stores, Inc., Family Dollar Tree Stores, Inc., Great Clips, Inc., Little Caesar Enterprises, Inc., Quiznos, Simply Fashion Stores, Ltd. and WLS Lighting Systems.
