FIDALGO ISLAND, WA-The 162-acre Scimitar Ridge Ranch here will be sold to the highest bidder at an open outcry auction in September. Used most recently as a leadership development and training center, the San Juan Islands retreat was last listed on the open market at $30 million. Built for an heir to the Ralston Purina fortune and completed in 1993, the 15-building complex was designed as an equestrian facility. Amenities include a main residence, barbecue pavilion, guest houses, a fully stocked fish pond, orchards, herb and vegetable gardens, a helicopter pad, horse stables, corrals, barns and a ropes course for endurance testing. The main residence includes a great room with its 45-foot-tall fir tree columns from southern Oregon, a massive elk antler chandelier and massive stone fireplace crafted of cobblestones from the streets of 15th century London. A game room, which is entered through an antique revolving door from a Paris department store, overlooks the lap pool and waterfall grotto with walls of Montana Rialite and floors of Idaho siltstone. The wine cellar, which can store thousands of bottles, includes a tasting room. Another level is home to the entertainment room and its proscenium stage, complete with dressing room. The stage is equipped with footlights and converts to a theater complete with rearview projection screen and surround sound. The building is replete with a secret bedroom accessed through a hidden passage concealed by a bookcase wall that swings open. The property will be sold to the highest bidder, regardless of price, in an open outcry auction on Sept. 12 at the Marriott Hotel Sea-Tac. On site inspections are scheduled by appointment only on Aug. 14, 15, 21, 22, and 25 through Sept. 2. The property is being marketed by Sheldon Good & Company Auctions LLC and the luxury estate division of Seattle-based Ewing & Clark Inc.
