$13M Makeover of Red Cross HQ Begins

WASHINGTON, DC-A massive makeover of the American Red Cross Headquarters Building has gotten under way with Clark Construction Group LLC’s Clark Interiors at the helm. The 55,000-sf structure, a designated national historic landmark property that was originally developed nearly 90 years ago, will officially emerge from its modernization program on June 1 of next year, a Clark spokesperson tells GlobeSt.com. Red Cross will spend $13 million to realize the endeavor.

Located at 430 17th St. between the White House and the Washington Monument, the Red Cross headquarters will be revitalized from the inside out with upgrades to its infrastrucutral systems, as well as the restoration of exterior aspects of the white marble and brick façade building. Some demolition work will also be involved, occurring over a three-month period. Architectural firm Shalom Baranes Associates has been tapped to maintain the historical integrity of the property.
