The deal represents the first foray into the area for the company, which was formed in 1997 to acquire and commercialize a portfolio of three technologies relating to the treatment of liver cancer. Sirtex is headquartered in North Ryde in New South Wales, Australia and it operates other facilities in Bonn, Germany and Lake Forest, IL.

The building, which consists of three contiguous condominium units, will function as a new manufacturing site for Sirtex Medical. Juliette Reiter, associate, of GVA Thompson Doyle Hennessey & Stevens, represented Sirtex, while the seller, an individual private owner whose company formerly occupied the building, was represented by the Stubblebine Co.

According to Trammell Crow Co.'s most recent statistics, Wilmington's research and development market has an overall availability rate of about 25%. The average asking rent for that type of space in the area is approximately $16 per sf.
