In the new created position, he is responsible for overseeing all of SuperValu's real estate functions, including store development, non- operating properties, store design and construction, project management, lease administration and facility maintenance. Desmond reports to David Boehnen, executive vice president of SuperValu.
Desmond previously worked for Wal-Mart, where he was director of real estate. He was responsible for all of Wal-Mart's domestic property management lease administration and asset management functions.
Before that, Desmond spent 13 years with Kmart Corp., where he was group real estate director, responsible for all real estate functions in the western and central US and in select international markets.
Desmond has experience in negotiating and structuring real estate transactions and expertise in discount store, supercenter, distribution center and outlot development. SuperValu has annual revenues exceeding $20 billion, and has nearly 1,500 retail grocery locations.
