Project developers, the City of Rockville, RD Rockville LLC, and Federal Realty Investment Trust tapped Whiting-Turner Construction to head up demolition activities. Whiting-Turner's entire contract for activities pertaining to the development of Rockville Town Square is for a total of $19 million. The last of the 23 tenants of the ill-fated shopping center were just recently relocated.

The site will actually become home to the parking lot of Rockville Town Square, which will ultimately consist of 630 luxury apartments and condominiums, and 170,000 sf of retail space. Magruder's Grocery Store, as well as several other former shopping center tenants, will have new homes in the new Town Square development upon its 2006 completion.
