FAA Administrator Marion Blakey says some of the money will pay for long-range planning for the airport. "Detroit's doing the right thing," she says. "That's the kind of smart growth and smart planning that wewant to see."
Among the projects covered:
* $18.2 million for apron and runway construction.
* $7.5 million for sound insulation for 207 houses in Romulus and Taylor.
* $1.5 million for further noise abatement study.
* $1 million for runway safety improvements.
* $1 million for taxiway lighting.
* $1 million to update the airport's master plan.
