FAA Pays Out $30M for Airport Work

ROMULUS, MI-A raft of projects big and small at Detroit Metro Airport are being covered by the Federal Aviation Administration. The largest project is apron and runway construction.

ROMULUS, MI-The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded more than $30 million to Detroit Metropolitan Airport, mostly as repayment for projects ranging from taxiway lighting to sound insulation for 207 houses in Romulus and Taylor. Many of the projects have already been completed and the Wayne County Airport Authority, which operates theairport, was in line for a FAA reimbursement.

FAA Administrator Marion Blakey says some of the money will pay for long-range planning for the airport. “Detroit’s doing the right thing,” she says. “That’s the kind of smart growth and smart planning that wewant to see.”
