Construction is expected to be completed in November and the plan is to open in early December, says Paul Johnson, manager of the HealthEast Rice Street Clinic. The new clinic, which was designed by Genesis Architecture, a business owned by the Eden Prairie, MN-based Welsh Cos., will have 21 exam rooms, two procedure rooms and upgraded X-ray equipment. The new Rice Street Clinic will have seven family practice physicians on staff.

The clinic has been located on Rice Street for more than 80 years and in the present building for 51 years. It has outgrown its location and renovating it would not have been cost effective.

The HealthEast Rice Street Clinic continues to grow and now is also one of the clinics in the Twin Cities providing medical screenings to the new Hmong refugees. Johnson says screenings are already under way and they expect to see about 50 to 75 refugees a month.
