Development Groups Consider Combined Approach

FLINT, MI-The Flint Area Chamber of Commerce, Flint-Genesee Economic Growth Alliance and Genesee Area Focus Council Inc. are considering a merger to form an new economic development agency.

FLINT, MI-An economic alliance agency may be in the future for the Flint area. The Flint Area Chamber of Commerce, Flint-Genesee Economic Growth Alliance and Genesee Area Focus Council Inc., which have combined budgets in excess of $3 million, are studying the concept, which could include a merger of the three agencies.

Flint and Genesee County trail many similarly sized communities in population growth, per capita income and business and employment numbers, says Bill Hartman, president and chief executive officer ofFlint-based Citizens Banking Corp. He is head of a Focus Council committee spearheading the study. The three organizations may be ripe for a merger since they have overlapping goals, board members andcompetition for funding, he adds.
