Quarry Project Will Move Forward

REVERE, MA-Mass Highway has proposed widening Route 1 through Revere and Malden from Copeland Circle to Route 999. The move will allow Roseland Property Co. to move forward with the second phase of its redevelopment of the former Rowe Quarry property. The highway goes through the 100-acre property, which is on this community’s border with Malden. Revere Mayor Thomas G. Ambrosino tells GlobeSt.com that the proposal is in the early stages of its environmental review, but he says that the “expectation is that it will happen.”

While Ambrosino notes that the highway improvement is “long overdue” he says that it is only happening now because of the quarry redevelopment. The $500 million project at full build out involves nearly 2,000 units as well as retail and commercial space. Ambrosino points out that Roseland is donating property from the quarry site for the highway widening and is funding the cost of the design, which is estimated to be $1 million.
