GlobeSt.com EXCLUSIVE: Architectural Firm Moves From Building It Designed

NEW YORK CITY-The architectural firm designed the landmark building it called home, but as asking rents ticked upwards of $80 per sf, it opted to find more affordable digs and chose a spot where the asking rate is $36 per sf.

NEW YORK CITY-Famed architects Johnson & Ritchi inked a 7,776-sf sublease on the fifth floor of 4 Columbus Circle. The firm was previously located at the Seagram Building, which Philip Johnson built, along with German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1958. In fact, in 1979, Johnson received the first Pritzer prize for architecture for his work including the landmark site at 375 Park Ave.

Andrew Lazarus, Howard Grufferman and Andrew Hawkins of Grubb & Ellis Co. represented Johnson & Ritchi. CB Richard Ellis represented Zagats Survey LLC, who leased the space for its online division, but never used it. The space was originally built and occupied by Swanke, Haden & Connell Architects.
