PONTIAC, MI-Oakland County executive L. Brooks Patterson and Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick met behind closed doors in Patterson’s local office this week, apparently reaching an understanding that hasbrought Oakland County back to the table for talks on a proposed $665-million expansion of the Cobo convention center in Detroit. Among the key issues discussed were delays in the release of city documents on Cobo and whether agreements had been reached on the project’s funding and oversight, the men say.

Detroit officials released what Patterson called “a substantial pile” of papers, and Kilpatrick reassured Patterson that no decisions had been made on how to pay for the project. Last week, Patterson had pulled his county’s representatives out of ongoing talks about the proposed expansion. The biggest hurdle in the project is how it will be financed.
