"Sometimes its pays to be last," Ed Friedman, executive vice president-brokerage and advisory services for Newmark, tells GlobeSt.com adding that the firm has learned from both the successes and failures of its predecessors in this marketplace. Friedman says a key to the newest venture is that the newest additions will integrate culturally with Newmark's core values. "They really need to fit in. We operate openly and collegially. We believe revenue can be compounded by personality."

Industrial specialist Jack O'Connor was named director of Newmark's National Industrial Practice Group. Joining him are Brian Lee, Dan Marcus and Scott W. Berfas. Lee has been appointed executive managing director of the firm's Long Island office, while Marcus and Berfas will serve as executive directors.

"Both gentlemen not only embody Newmark's core values, but also bring a unique blend of qualities to the firm that will benefit us greatly as we expand our Long Island practice and our national presence," Friedman says of O'Connor and Lee. "Not only are they well respected, but they are also expert team builders and gifted mentors."
