The expansion of 1820 E. Sky Harbor Circle South will be used to house the bank's line-of-business call center where 183,000 sf of access flooring, with under-floor cabling, will be put in to service 1,800 work stations. About 1,100 people currently work in the operations center. When the second phase is finished, another 1,200 to 1,400 employees will be relocated from facilities throughout the Valley, including one at 1515 W. 14th St. in Tempe and Bank One Center in Downtown Phoenix, according to a Bank One spokeswoman.
The operations center is located near Sky Harbor International Airport, central to other Bank One facilities and labor pool. It's also along the city's light rail line.
Summit Builders, the general contractor, is expected to be finished with the second phase during second quarter 2005. Summit Builders also constructed the first phase, which was completed in September 2003.
The total value of the second phase has not yet been determined, according to the Bank One spokeswoman. However, she adds that the first phase construction cost $35 million and another $35 million was invested in technology and infrastructure. "We'll be spending an equal dollar amount on the infrastructure for the second phase," she says.
The facility is located on land owned by the City of Phoenix and leased to Bank One. Locally based DMJM Design is project architect for both phases.
