In his new position, Rudin will assume the day-to-day responsibilities for the company's operations in New York City, northern and central New Jersey, Long Island, and Westchester and Fairfield counties. His appointment will let the other members of the Tri-State leadership team--Tighe, Robert Alexander, co-chairman, and John Powers, co-chairman--to shed some of the daily decision-making demands and focus more attention on strategic direction, client service and business development, according to the firm.
For the past 18 months he served as president of CBRE's US brokerage operations. He previously held the same position at Insignia/ESG before CBRE's acquisition of the firm in 2003. "Mitch has done a superb job of introducing Insignia's Managed Brokerage process to our US offices, and putting the systems and support resources in place to ensure its successful adoption nationwide," says Brett White, CB Richard Ellis' president. "With that initiative well on its way, he is the perfect complement to our Tri-State leadership team."
According to the firm, in the early 1990s, Rudin started and headed Gordon Property Group for the Edward S. Gordon Co. (predecessor to Insignia/ESG). This division focused on marketing New York City office towers at a time when the real estate recession made so-called "accidental owners" out of financial institutions. Putting into place a structure to market and lease these properties--as well as office buildings owned by traditional property owners--Rudin oversaw the growth of the Gordon Property Group portfolio to more than 23 million sf.
At CBRE, he has helped to develop relationships that led to recent New York City transactions, including a 120,000-sf renewal and expansion for Kasowitz Benson Torres & Friedman at 1633 Broadway and McGraw-Hill's disposition of its ownership interest in 1221 Avenue of the Americas.
In 2001, Rudin earned the inaugural Edward S. Gordon Excellence Award. He is a trustee of the Urban Land Institute, a member of the executive committee of New York University's Real Estate Institute and former chairman of the Young Mens/Womens Real Estate Association. Prior to entering the real estate brokerage field, Rudin was a partner at Tishman-Speyer Properties and, before that, a real estate attorney at Davis & Gilbert.
