A location is not yet determined. It will be financed through bonds, fee increases and the university's housing budget.
Construction on the new dorm will start by 2006 and it will open by 2008, says Michigan housing director Carol Henry. Regent Andrea Newman has been waiting for new housing at Michigan for 10 years. "We need more housing at this university. We haven't kept up," she says.
In August, the university said it was putting about 200 upper-class undergraduates in family housing rather than dormitories because of overbooking.
