A former Montgomery Wards department store and a Jeepers store were demolished to make room for Target, which is now an anchor along with Best Buy, Dick's Sporting Goods and Toys 'R' Us. Part of the renovation plan includes the creation of 35,000 sf of additional retail space.

Petrie Ventures credits the local government with helping to pave the way for the mall's turnaround. "Anne Arundel County Executive Janet Owens, County Council Person Pam Beidle and Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp. president and CEO Bill Badger are committed to improving and redeveloping aging property in Anne Arundel County," Petrie Ventures chairman Walt Petrie notes. "Without their help we could have never brought Target to the Centre at Glen Burnie."
