Phoenix-based Wespac Construction Inc. is the general contractor for the Glenrosa Service Center at 4255 W. Glenrosa Ave., which will cost nearly $2 million to develop. "We hope the program is going to be something really fantastic for the city," says Ron Ensley of Westpac Construction. "We believe it will end up being a long-term program with many benefits."

Ensley tells GlobeSt.com that the city's waste management team has identified several vendors that will accept construction debris and recycle it. For example, the city can reduce the amount of debris going into the landfill by recycling scrap metal such as rebar. The city will get paid for the recycled material, but the amount will depend on the volume. According to Ensley, the biggest challenge in introducing the waste management program is making sure that the pieces of debris end up in the right recycling dumpsters.
