U-M Dorm Building First Since 1967

ANN ARBOR, MI-The University of Michigan plans to replace the former Ann Arbor High School with a new dormitory as well as renovate five other residence halls in a 10-year project expected to cost more than $250 million.

ANN ARBOR, MI-The University of Michigan will demolish the Frieze Building–the former Ann Arbor High School–to make way for a new 500-student residence hall that will include academic space. The new building on a prime piece of real estate Downtown will be a “beautiful gateway to campus,” says university president Mary Sue Coleman.

The new dorm is expected to be completed by 2008 and will be the first new dorm built by Michigan since 1967. There is no estimate of the cost yet. However, Michigan officials recently estimated that a plan to build a new dorm and improve five existing residence halls over the next 10 years would cost between $250 million and $280 million.
