FRANKENMUTH, MI-The town made famous for its chicken dinners has a new goal on tap, bringing the Beer Hall of Fame here to stay. The city's Downtown Development Authority director says the city known as "Little Bavaria" is the ideal place to house an international brew shrine.

Leisure Technician of Severna Park, MD is hosting a national search to select a permanent home for the Beer Hall of Fame to represent 90 million beer drinkers in the US and more from around theworld. When the company first floated the idea, more than two dozen cities across the US threw their hat into the ring, including Birch Run. Frankenmuth now is among the six finalists.

Leisure Technician says the winner, which they plan to announce Oct. 30, will land on the "international map." Other cities in the running are Baltimore, Pittsburgh, San Diego and two big beer towns--Milwaukee, the home of Miller, and St. Louis, home of Anhueser-Busch.

Jennifer Tebedo, president of the Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce, says the Beer Hall of Fame could prove a boon for Frankenmuth, already one of the state's most popular tourist destinations. It could also spur more restaurant growth, as well as a "brew" college.

"If it was here, the Hall of Fame would be a destination, something that people would travel here for," Tebedo says. "In those other places, it could get lost in the metropolitan mix."
