Group Plans Mixed-Use Development for Downtown

FLINT, MI-A move to revitalize this city's Downtown gets a boost when an investor's group purchases three buildings to develop a new restaurant and residential complex.

FLINT, MI-Officials from the investor group Uptown Developments have bought three buildings in the 500 block of S. Saginaw Street and plans to create an office, restaurant and residential complex Downtown. City officials hail the development, which could bring new life to the troubled Downtown by 2006.

The Uptown Developments Group says restaurateur George Falaras has already agreed to build a restaurant and brew pub within the three buildings on S. Saginaw. In addition, Rowe Engineering has shown interest in moving its offices to the site, and negotiations are under way to throw a few apartments into the development mix. “This project is so large. It will bring 220 employees Downtown. That’s quite a few for the first time in many, many years,” says Phil Shaltz, of Uptown Developments.
