A representative of the town's planning department tells GlobeSt.com that Lahey needed a special permit and a site plan review to move ahead with construction. The expansion, which will be built in four phases through 2008, involves adding 330,580 sf to the current building. The clinic is located on a 40-acre campus near South Bedford Street and Route 128. The hospital currently has 257 beds and 2,400 parking spaces.
Lahey is in the process of filing plans for its building permits and still needs state approval before it can begin construction. The clinic anticipates beginning construction by the end of this year.
