Town Approves Lahey Clinic's $135M Expansion

BURLINGTON, MA-Lahey Clinic took a giant leap forward in its bid to implement a $135-million expansion project at its facility on Burlington Mall Road. The town’s planning board approved the hospital’s expansion plan, which would add 80 beds, operating rooms, a new cancer center and a four-level, 1,200-space garage.

A representative of the town’s planning department tells GlobeSt.com that Lahey needed a special permit and a site plan review to move ahead with construction. The expansion, which will be built in four phases through 2008, involves adding 330,580 sf to the current building. The clinic is located on a 40-acre campus near South Bedford Street and Route 128. The hospital currently has 257 beds and 2,400 parking spaces.
