PURCHASE, NY-It was a week of grand openings at National Realty & Development Corp.'s Orange Plaza and North Haven shopping centers located in Middletown, NY and North Haven, CT, respectively. At its Orange Plaza property, popular donut and coffee retailer Krispy Kreme opened a new store at the signalized driving entrance to the complex at Dunning Road. The Winston-Salem, NC retailer operates 398 stores in 45 states.

Also planned to open soon at Orange Plaza are Panera Bread, Ruby Tuesday and H&R Block. Those stores are also off Dunning Road and are part of the redevelopment of the former Kmart space. Other tenants that occupy the redeveloped Kmart facility at Orange Plaza include Burlington Coat Factory, Work 'N Gear, Annie Sez, Payless ShoeSource and Bombay Co.

Orange Plaza, a 900,000-sf open-air shopping center, has only one existing unit of 4,700 sf available and approvals to construct up to 35,000 sf in a freestanding building, National Realty & Development officials say.

Orange Plaza's main tenants include Wal-Mart Supercenter, the Home Depot, Kohl's Department Store, Bed Bath & Beyond, Modell's Sporting Goods, David's Bridal, Staples and Applebee's.

National Realty, which is headquartered here, acquired the enclosed Orange Plaza, demolished the facility and in the spring 2002 completed the repositioning of the property as an open-air shopping center.

The company also reports that at its North Haven Pavilion property, Target, Sports Authority, Michaels, Joyce Leslie, Payless ShoeSource, Bombay and Panera Bread held grand openings recently. Other openings scheduled for later this month are Catherine's, Lane Bryant, Sleepy's, .99 Cent Power and EB Gameworld. National Realty officials add that Country Corner Kitchen & Bath, T-Mobile, Ruby Tuesday, Wendy's, Quizno's, Cold Stone Creamery and Desert Moon are expected to open in late 2004 or early 2005 at the 275,000-sf facility located on Universal Drive North in North Haven, CT.
