Hospital Completes $150M Construction Project

ARLINGTON, VA-Three years after work began on a 530,000-sf development endeavor, the 334-bed Virginia Hospital Center has opened the doors of its new wing at its N. George Mason Drive campus. The event was marked by a grand opening celebration over the weekend. In addition to providing new patient beds and office space, the new facility has expanded the medical center’s emergency capacity by 75%.

The new wing at Virginia Hospital Center, a nonprofit teaching hospital, is a state-of-the-art development, but its hefty price tag involves more than just the new space. Before construction began, the hospital excavated an area of the property, and demolished 67,000 sf of existing buildings that had outlived their usefulness. Additionally, 94,000 sf of the existing hospital building underwent renovation.
