16-Unit Affordable Condo Project Opens

BOSTON-The Uva Douglas Estates at Sugar Hill, a 16-unit condominium development in the neighborhood of Roxbury, is officially open. The affordable housing project was originally scheduled for completion in the spring of 2003 but it was destroyed by arson in November 2002 when it more than halfway completed.

The project was formerly known as the Townhomes at Franklin Highlands but was renamed in honor of Uva Douglas, an elderly neighbor who was killed in the fire.

The Uva Douglas Estates are the first and only home ownership units created under the MassHousing/HUD Demonstration Disposition program. This program has renovated 1,850 rental units in 11 federally subsidized rental housing developments in Dorchester, Roxbury and the South End.
