ALLEN PARK, MI-REDICO and Lormax Stern Development Co. have begun construction on a 350,000-sf retail development at the former Veteran’s Administration hospital site. Known as Independence Marketplace, the center is scheduled to open in the fall 2005 and will house Lowe’s, Joanne ETC, Staples and Petco as major tenants.

The development will also feature three standalone restaurants including Johnny Carino’s and Applebee’s. “The Independence Marketplace shopping center will cater to an area which, for many years, has been underserved from a retail perspective,” says Daniel Stern, co-partner, Lormax Stern Development Co.
