Developers Eye Holland For Senior Complexes

HOLLAND, MI-Developers for two senior communities, Resthaven Patrons Inc. and Tendercare of Michigan, hope to rezone agricultural land for their projects. Plan commission recommendations are needed.

HOLLAND, MI-Developers for the Cottage Grove and Tendercare senior living projects are hopeful they can convince city officials to allow for two new senior developments on agricultural land. The nonprofit Resthaven Patrons Inc. has received rezoning approval for 40 acres at 875 E. 14th St. from agricultural to planned unit development to create a senior development called Cottage Grove at Van Raalte Woods.

Resthaven needs final approval of the project concept by the planning commission before it can seek financing. Last week, the commission tabled the matter to obtain more information from developers, but alsopraised the project. The state also requires that three-quarters of the housing be sold before construction begins.

If approved, Cottage Grove would have 34 cottages, 26 condominium cottages set in neighborhoods with 87 apartments. Prices for the cottages would be in the $225,000 range, with a requirement they be resold to Resthaven when no longer in use by the buyer.
