PEACHTREE CITY, GA-Overturning a big-box ordinance that prohibits a retailer from occupying more than 32,000-sf, Faison Enterprises of Charlotte, NC and locally based partner Peachtree City Holdings, a division of Pathway Communities, plan to break ground on their $35-million, 264,238-sf addition to Kedron Village shopping center, 35 miles southwest of Downtown Atlanta. The expansion will start in spring 2005 at the 10-year-old, 135,762-sf center.

Peachtree City Council approved the project despite objections from neighborhood groups in the north end of the city, where the addition will be built between Georgian Park, GA 74 and Peachtree Parkway. The addition will include a $10-million, 124,717-sf Target Supercenter and 13 additional buildings totaling 139,521 sf. The tentative completion date is spring 2006.

To win the council vote, Faison officials agreed to modify the Target exterior design so that it will not look like a warehouse structure, retail brokers attending the council meeting tell GlobeSt.com. Council members had previously objected to the Target building's industrial-like appearance in a suburban community of 35,000 residents.
