"This marks the beginning of a new relationship with Hino, and furthers Michigan's growing partnership with Toyota," says Gov. Jennifer Granholm. "Hino's decision to move its headquarters here is testament to the state's business-friendly climate and automotive industry leadership."
Hino Motors Sales, also known as Hino Trucks, is the sales arm of Tokyo-based Hino Motors Ltd. Founded in 1942, Hino Motors Ltd. is Japan's leading producer of medium and large commercial trucks and busses with 8,500 employees worldwide and gross revenues of $10billion. Owned 51% by Toyota Motor Corp., Hino is one of Toyota's core group of companies.
The relocation will bring the company closer to itscustomers and suppliers. "We are excited about our new facilities and our move to the Detroit area," says Mitsuo Kikuchi, president of Hino Motors Sales U.S.A., Inc. "Michigan provides the right environment to support our plans for future growth."
"Hino's move underscores Michigan's standing as a center of automotive excellence," says David Hollister, director of the state Department of Labor and Economic Development. "Every day we see new signs of success, some large and some small, that our work is bringing new job opportunities for our people."
