35 Retailers Open Doors at Alderwood Mall

LYNNWOOD, WA-As part of its ongoing $150-million redevelopment and expansion that began in 2002, General Growth Properties unveils The Village, a new outdoor lifestyle center at Alderwood Mall.

LYNNWOOD, WA-Thirty-five retailers new to Alderwood Mall opened their doors this week as part of General Growth Properties’ ongoing $150-million redevelopment and expansion of the mall. The three-year project that began in 2002 will result in a net gain of about 165,000 sf, taking the overall development to 1.4 million sf.The new stores and restaurants opening this week are part of The Village, the mall’s new open-air component. A source at GGP says an additional six stores are still completing tenant improvements and leases are still being negotiated for another nine spaces.GGP acquired the mall in 1999 and announced plans for the redevelopment and expansion in 2002. That same year GGP demolished the former Lamont’s space at the mall and launched construction of a new 144,000-sf Nordstrom store, which opened in 2003. Also last year, GGP completed The Terraces, an indoor-outdoor area that extends from the current food court and includes new shops and eateries. By next spring, The Terraces also will include a new 16-screen movie theater by Loews Entertainment. The theater is under construction.Earlier this year, the mall completed a major interior makeover of the existing enclosed mall, including colored ceiling panels that hide much of a long-exposed metal superstructure. As well, hard benches in the mall’s shopping corridors have been replaced by sofas and many of the existing 150 stores expanded and refreshed their entrances and interiors.
