BURNSVILLE, MN-Opus Northwest has begun construction on a 102,000-sf urban redevelopment project. The mixed-used project is anchored by a Cub Foods store and will also have 14,000 sf of adjacent retail space as well as 19,000 sf of freestanding space that will include a bank and other retail space.

The retail project is scheduled to open in July. It is part of the city's redevelopment plan called Heart of the City. In addition to the retail project, there will also a residential component with 210 condominium units, 30 townhomes and an additional 18,000 sf of retail space on the first floor of the main entry to the project along Travelers Trail. Lingelhutz Residential Partners will be developing the residential component of the project.

The Heart of the City is located along Nicollet Avenue, south of Highway 13 and north of Burnsville Parkway. The project involves transforming 54 acres straddling Nicollet Avenue near Minnesota 13 into a new town center, complete with housing, parks, stores, parking ramps and links to mass transit.

Cub Foods recently opened a new 73,000-sf store as part of United Properties' Applewood Pointe, a mixed-use project being developed by United Properties at 84th Street and Lyndale Avenue in Bloomington as part of a 13-acre redevelopment at 84th Street and Lyndale Avenue.
