Kmart-Anchored Center to be Revitalized, Expanded

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI-The Kmart was once slated to close, but Gratiot Crossing Marketplace at 23 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue will be expanded to 170,000 sf by REDICO and Lormax Stern Development Co.

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI-REDICO and Lormax Stern Development Co., co-owners of the Gratiot Crossing Marketplace at 23 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue, are in the process of expanding the center. When completed, by next summer, the center will havegrown from 85,000 sf to 170,000 sf in the multi-million-dollar upgrade.

Retailers Joanne ETC, PetCo and Mobile2Mobile are already lined up to be added to the center. “We’ve secured some major tenants to revitalize this corner, and we look forward to completing the lineup as construction continues in the next few months,” says Daniel Stern, co-partner at Lormax Stern Development Co.

The Gratiot Crossing is anchored by a Kmart store, which first opened on that location in 1979. In January of this year, that Kmart store was listed as a store that would be closed by the chain as part of its bankruptcy proceedings. Kmart and Redico/Lormax Stern were able to work out a new lease arrangement and the store remained open. Kmart came out of bankruptcy in the spring.
