Crosswinds Drops Huge Development

MILAN TOWNSHIP, MI-A 4,900-acre development planned for the northwest corner of Monroe County has been shelved because of the cost and time needed to install infrastructure.

MILAN TOWNSHIP, MI-Novi-based Crosswinds Communities says it is dropping plans for a huge complex of about 9,000 homes and commercial and community buildings in this 1,700-resident Monroe County community. Crosswinds decided the cost and time needed to install infrastructure, primarily water and sewer service, were the main reasons for the decision not to proceed, a company spokesman says.

Crosswinds had planned a development that, besides the 9,000 new residences, was to include retail, office and research facilities along with new schools, police and fire stations, a municipal hall, recreation buildings and parks. The area covered 4,900 acres 12 miles south of Ann Arbor and 35 miles southwest of Detroit.

Crosswinds has notified about 30 landowners who had agreed to sell their property for the project that the deals are off, he says.
