East Village Center To Replace Steel Factory

SPRING LAKE, MI-Crews will begin building a new hardware store on the former Harbor Steel property by month's end, setting the stage for a full redevelopment, officials say.

SPRING LANE, MI-Crews are expected by month’s end to begin the first stage of redevelopment for the former Harbor Steel property here. Village officials have approved the first phase of a project that will convert the site into a retail, office and residential project.

Redstone Development of Spring Lake is developing the property. Redstone president Ross Pope says construction on a new Ace Hardware store should begin within two weeks and be completed for a spring opening.

Pope says negotiations are continuing for other retailers who could occupy a building being considered east of the proposed hardware. Potential tenants include a coffee shop, a hair salon, a wine shop and a picture framing business.
