DAVIE, FL-Stiles Corp. has begun construction of Lakeside Town Shops, a 275,000-sf community shopping center here that will feature a 185,000-sf SuperTarget as the anchor tenant.Besides SuperTarget, which will feature a full-service grocery store, Lakeside Town Shops will have 68,875 sf of in-line retail space and nearly 4.9 acres for five outparcels. The center is scheduled to be completed in fall 2005. Divisions of Stiles are providing design, development, construction and leasing for the Broward County center, which is being developed on a 42-acre in-fill site at the northeast corner of Stirling Road and University Drive.According to Robert Breslau, president of Stiles Retail Group, this center is the biggest new community shopping center under construction and scheduled to come on line next year in the county. Breslau says a combined 25,000 sf in leases for the in-line space is under negotiations with national office supply, women's apparel, video and other specialty retailers, and leases are expected to be finalized within 45 days.Stiles divisions working on the project include: Stiles Development, which is handling development management for the center; Stiles Retail Group, which is involved in site identification, site acquisition, retail anchor negotiations and transactions, outparcel sales and leasing, and other space leasing; Architecture 6400 Inc., which designed the center; and Stiles Construction Co., the center's general contractor doing the initial site work for the center and building the Stiles-owned retail bays.Plans call for the property to include two 15-foot-wide linear pedestrian greenways with vine-covered overhead archways and benches through the property and ending at the entrances to SuperTarget. The property also has a nine-acre lake with fountains on the northeast side of the center.Stiles Corp. has several other major retail projects under way in Florida, including the East Sunrise Boulevard Publix in Fort Lauderdale and Harbor Shops, in that city's 17th Street Causeway area.
