HOUSTON-Residents of the 7,200-acre Cinco Ranch next year will have a new place for workouts with Eden Prairie, MN-based Life Time Fitness Inc. starting construction on a third location in the Houston area and eighth in the Lone Star State.

The 110,000-sf sports, professional fitness, family recreation and resort/spa center will open during the first half of 2005. The center is going up on a 15-acre site at the southeast corner of Grand Parkway and Cinco Ranch Boulevard. Life Time Fitness purchased the site from Newland Communities, the developer of Cinco Ranch.

A Newland Communities spokesman says the Life Time Fitness is near the Village Center at Cinco Ranch, a 96-acre, mixed-use project where the bulk of commercial development is occurring in the community. At full build-out in 2010, Cinco Ranch is projected to have 12,000 households.

The Life Time Fitness center at Cinco Ranch will offer 24-hour access to more than 400 pieces of cardio, resistance and free-weight training equipment. Other amenities will include three rock climbing walls, two full-size basketball courts, two squash and two racquetball courts, dry sauna and steam rooms. It also will have a large indoor/outdoor aquatics center featuring multiple two-story waterslides, two large zero-entry recreation pools, lap pool, children's play area and two whirlpools. The amenity package includes a child activity center featuring free childcare, play maze, computer center and separate infant playroom.
