Apple may have more plans to expand in Europe. Local news reports say the company intends to open stores in the British cities of Birmingham and Kent. Company officials could not be reached for comment on their European expansion goals.
The two-floor London store will include a 64-seat theater, a children's section with eight computers and a customer service area the retailer is dubbing The Studio. Over 250 customer events will take place at the store during the first month after its opening.
This is not Apple's first store abroad. The company also has two stores in Japan. Its other 96 units are across the United States.
In the United States, Cupertino, CA-Apple has begun opening "mini stores" in malls and other types of shopping centers. The new format will enable Apple to expand less expensively on a per-store basis in comparison to its larger stores, which can run up to 8,000 sf for one of the "high profile" locations. The mini stores are 750 sf. Apple opened its first unit in May 2001.
