CHICAGO-A not-for-profit organization providing college preparatory support to African-American high school students will move from the Greater Grand Crossing community to a $2.7-million headquarters near Chinatown. The organization is buying a 21,000-sf site at 2221-39 S. State St., most recently appraised at $960,000 or more, from the city for $100,000.

The land sale was recently endorsed by the community development commission. LINK Unlimited is hoping to break ground on the 7,200-sf, one-story building, in March.

LINK Unlimited serves 255 students from 38 high schools, and has helped 1,250 during its 38-year tenure, according to department of planning and development project manager Kristin Groce. The organization has raised $1.2 million for the project as well as for its services and has $3.8 million in pledges.
