Same-store sales were down 4.9% for the year and 8.3% during the company's Q4. Mothers Work posted a net income of $5.9 million for the year, but it saw a net loss of $3.6 million during the Q4.

Next year Mothers Work plans to open 30 to 40 new stores and close 48 to 60 units, though some of the stores will close as a result of its new superstore concept that it started rolling out earlier this year.

Earlier this month Mothers Work reported that it signed deals with Kohl's and Sears Roebuck & Co. to put branded collections of apparel in their stores. Its Two Hearts Maternity brand is in 70 Sears and is planned for 645 units by March. The company plans to have its Oh Baby! By Motherhood brand in 637 Kohl's in February.

The new superstores are called Destination Maternity, and Mothers Work currently operates four, with four more planned to open in the first six months of next year. Destination Maternities carry the items found in the company's Motherhood Maternity, Mimi Maternity, and A Pea in the Pod chains. Mothers Work operates 883 stores and leases shops in 232 other locations.
