The non-profit district already has several business tenants and plans to eventually revitalize the entire 12 block area with lofts, condos, some retail and a variety of buildings designed to accommodate technology start-ups. Marlo Jenkins has been named the project's day-to-daymanaging director.

"As we continue to build our capacity to assist our community of entrepreneurs, Marlo will be a most valuable resource. She brings a wealth of entrepreneurial expertise and training to the table," says executive director Howard Bell.

Jenkins described TechTown as a "collaborative and innovative place where businesses get the help they need to grow." A Detroit native, Jenkins spent more than 13 years of marketing experience and strategic planning for such groups as Kellogg Company, Kraft Foods, and Ford Motor Co.

The TechTown project located inside a tax enterprise zone. Also at Wayne State, the university's masters of urban planning program, in the College of Urban, Labor and Metropolitan Affairs received high rankings in the Journal of Planning Education and Research. The degree program is just one part of the CULMA's programs. The college prepares a wide variety of area demographic and statistical information that is available for use by developers, city planners and others in the real estate industry.
